He is a single father and raised 5 kids and he struggled enough that  drove him to live in quiet desperation.

He has also suffered from discrimination due to being a single dad!

Dwight managed to dig out of desperation he lived in for so many years to live life on purpose and not by accident and now he teaches others how to do the same.
